TS&A accepted an assignment from a supplier to the telecommunications industry who was interested in exploring opportunities for their technologies and products in the government market. TS&A pointed out that their products were most likely to become subassemblies in larger systems that might be procured by government agencies. Consequently, TS&A recommended that the client focus on conveying their skills and capabilities to large system primes who were most likely to use the client’s products to add value to their own system proposals. TS&A introduced the client to several such primes, one of which expressed almost immediate interest in collaborating with the client to pursue an enhanced electronic surveillance system in an upcoming contract with the Navy through the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). TS&A introduced DARPA management to the client and the prime contractor program manager, who presented their proposal. The proposal was immediately accepted by DARPA, resulting in the award of a seven-figure sole-source contract to the prime and the client.

TS&A undertook a detailed technical review of the company’s capabilities, which exposed both unexploited strengths and potential program difficulties. TS&A helped the company to develop a strategic plan to leverage its technology strengths for dual use (both commercial and military) applications, and participated in an intensive initiative to develop and implement strategies to protect a major contract.

A Fortune 50 parent company asked TS&A to determine whether the divisions comprising its federal systems group were positioned to remain competitive in their rapidly evolving markets. First, TS&A developed a broad assessment of the company’s customers and external marketing environment. Then, TS&A conducted interviews at the various divisions in order to map current capabilities, and resources against TS&A’s projection of the future environment. As a result of its assessment, TS&A was able to pinpoint key core capabilities, identify orphaned technologies, reduce redundancies, and create an overall Group strategic plan to maximize its competitive advantage in the future.
