Strategic Simulations: Wargames & Workshops

Strategic simulations can be used to address a variety of organizational challenges, to include:

  • Modeling complex processes and interactions to determine outcomes
  • Developing more effective Integrated Product Teams, working groups, and internal/external collaborative alliances
  • Experimenting with new techniques and processes such as innovative technology transfer, or acquisition approaches
  • Defining and developing more effective organizational dynamics
  • Training of process/program teams
  • Conducting trial runs of new program starts
  • Solving problems and complex issues involving human dynamics

TS&A conducts simulations that are not pre-packaged, computer–based business simulation models, but rather, unique, highly-customized games and workshops designed to address each client’s needs and organizational dynamics. TS&A’s various simulation methodologies encourage participants to learn about their business and competitive environment, articulate their assumptions, and engage in innovative, out-of–the-box thinking in a professionally challenging, yet enjoyable environment.

Selected Client Success Stories

  • TS&A was tasked by a senior Department of Defense office to identify and consider the strategic issues which the U.S. will have to address as more nations acquire access to nuclear weapons. TS&A developed a broad range of nuclear futures and conflict scenarios to examine the prospects and operational implications of nuclear use, the implications of nuclear use for alliances and strategic relationships, and appropriate strategies to maintain a U.S. advantage. TS&A assembled a team of senior nuclear experts and facilitated three workshops to address the political, operational, policy, strategic alliance, and enhanced nuclear technical capabilities considerations associated with this task.

  • For the Office of Naval Research, TS&A designed and executed an Advanced Capability Electric Systems (ACES) wargame, which focused on the front end of the technology transition process -- program initiation. Sixty-five executives representing the Navy and Marine Corps, the academic community, and industry participated. At the end of the game, ACES program leadership concluded that they had accomplished as much in the 2½ days of gaming as they had in the previous six months with regard to developing a conceptual framework for creating new ACES program starts. Shortly after, the Navy began acquisition of a man-portable power supply based on the technical consensus reached in the game.

  • TS&A was tasked to design and conduct a wargame for the Commandant of the Marine Corps and his principal staff that explored the implications of a significant increase in terrorist and insurgent attacks against U.S. Marine forces in Iraq. TS&A was able to draw on its experience and work with other agencies of the government to plan and facilitate the one-day wargame/workshop for the Marine Corps Staff, including the Commandant and the Assistant Commandant, which fully satisfied the Commandant’s objectives.
